About the Bond
The Richland Two School Board approved a ballot question on July 15, 2008 asking voters for approval to spend $306 million to meet the facility needs of our district.
The bond, which will amount to just $2.00 per week on a $100,000 home, includes the following projects:
- Adding four classrooms each to Bookman Road, Killian, Lake Carolina and Round Top Elementary Schools. This will bring these schools to the capacity of the district’s design for future elementary schools.
- Construct Elementary School 17 on Langford Road in Blythewood.
- Construct Elementary Schools 18, 19 and 20 – locations to be determined.
- Construct Middle School 7 at Muller and Blythewood Roads.
- Construct an auxiliary gym for Richland Northeast High School. RNE is the only high school in the district without an auxiliary gym. This project will meet the need to accommodate more than 34 varsity sports.
- Renovations to Ridge View High School to help reclaim space lost when the school had to convert classroom space to planning and meeting space. Ridge View has the smallest footprint of any high school in the district, and it is overcrowded. This project will not increase capacity, but will help RVHS operate more efficiently.
- Renovations to the gymnasium at Spring Valley High School. This renovation was not included in the 2004 bond. Rather than constructing a new gym for the school, the district will meet the infrastructure needs by renovating an existing space.
- Construction of High School 5 on Turkey Farm Road east of Wren Creek subdivision. This high school will host the third district stadium. Richland Two has only been building one stadium per two high schools, not one stadium for every high school.
- Technology upgrades to connect all buildings to allow high speed access and exchange of data.
- Renovations to the Anna Boyd School. Some funding was allocated in the 2004 to get this old building up to speed. Additional renovations will be made to heating and air conditioning, electrical wiring and other infrastructure needs.
- Design of Middle School 8. The site is yet to be determined and will be chosen based on district need.
